So, who am I? I’m an everyday millennial just trying to figure out a path through life. Like many others, I’ve struggled with thoughts such as “I have no idea what I’m doing” and “is this how I want to spend the next forty years?”. This led me to quit my corporate 9 – 5 in June and set out on the path to becoming a doctor! Ambitious, right? Well, that dream lasted approximately three weeks until I realized that science did not interest me nearly enough to go through med school – we’ll get to that in a later post though.

These days, I’m on the hunt for a new job and figuring out how I can connect my desire to help people with the need to pay my bills. I think a lot of us can relate to that sentiment, so let’s explore that thought and many others together.

About Blooming Creek

Since I was a child, I dreamed about owning a ranch that I’d call Blooming Creek. It would have an overgrown orchard, a flowing creek, a herd of alpacas, and a lodge to host retreats. Ideally, it would be in the mountains with a massive alpine lake. While that dream hasn’t come to fruition quite yet, bloomingcreek.com was created as the same type of retreat. Blooming Creek is here to provide a place of respite. We’ll tackle some weighty topics, but we’ll do so in a way that’s honest and makes each of us feel known and understood. Then maybe someday, together we’ll build a retreat in the mountains to provide further solace. Blooming Creek is a place for you to belong, so grab a cup of coffee and a friend, open your favorite journal, and stay a while! I’m glad you’re here.

Explore people

Together, we’re going to explore different aspects of my life and friends’ lives. I believe a person is far better for being open with their community and letting others speak truth and life into them. On the flip side, I think each of us has truth and life to speak back to their community. With that in mind, there are no holds barred in this space. Let’s be real together.

Explore personal finances and careers*

As a CPA, I love talking personal finances and careers! With an accounting degree, an MBA, and my CPA license, I hope to offer some expertise in this topic that I can’t about most things in life. Do you want to learn about retirement strategies? Me too. Being between jobs has given me a lot of time to think about how I want to spend my time until retirement and moving that retirement date closer to now. Why retire at 67 when we could retire together at 35? We’ll explore full-time careers, side hustles, investment strategies, and other fun ways to spend our time.

Explore places and nature

Exploring places and nature is a favorite way to spend my time. I’m currently on the hunt for OKC’s best cappuccino. If you have any recommendations, let me know! Whether it’s solo travel, a trip with friends, or a really fun accounting conference (you’re right they don’t exist), I am travel’s number one fan! Exploring places allows me to learn so much about cultures and people (including myself) that a book never could. So pack your bags, and let’s go!

Explore books

Speaking of books, I love them. In 2020, I listened to or read 121 books. Can I list them all? No, ha! I didn’t discover reading until I was 25, so I have a lot of catching up to do. Learning to read has opened the door to endless learning, laughter, and growth. I read a lot of nonfiction, especially memoirs, anything involving nature, and mental health. The CPA in me struggles to paint the pictures depicted by fiction authors, but I’m working on it. Send all your book recommendations my way. You can find a list of my favorite reads here.

Explore grief and loss

This is probably the hardest area for me to explore, but I think we grow by hearing each other’s stories. Over time, we’ll explore some of the grief and loss in my life, and I hope you’ll take the time to share with me about yours. Let’s walk through the tough times together, instead of trying to walk around them alone.

Explore faith

I am a Christian and believe what the Bible teaches in the Gospel. Jesus’s teaching to love others is shaping me each day as I explore how I can best serve my community. I don’t think it’s as a doctor, but maybe it’s as a hope-filled blogger. Someday, I hope it’s as the owner of a retreat in the mountains! No matter how I make a living, I hope we can explore faith together. There are still so many questions that I’m trying to understand, and I’m sure you are too.
